User roles provide dashboard administrators with full control of the permissions associated with a particular type of user. Out of the box, Klipfolio offers 3 built-in roles: Admin, Editor and View-Only. These roles roughly align with the typical behaviour of users in Klipfolio Dashboard. Of course, these built-in roles may not cover all types of users in your dashboard. For them, you can create special custom roles. Here are 3 examples of useful custom roles.
Build & View
The Build & View role is a hybrid between the Editor and View-Only roles. This role provides users with the ability to view the dashboard and make annotations, but also with the ability to build Klips. The reason I've kept data sources out of the mix is to keep this role's scope very focused.
Key Permissions
- Klips: Build, share, edit, and delete Klips
- Tabs: Build, share, edit, and delete tabs
- Dashboard: See and edit annotations; add Klips to tabs; reorder tabs
User Admin
Your Administrator may be able to handle keeping up with 10 or even 50 users, but when you start talking about 100s or 1000s of users, a dedicated User Administrator becomes a good idea. His or her role is to make sure everyone has access to the dashboards they need and that no wires get crossed along the way.
Key Permissions
- Users, Groups and Roles: Manage all
- Dashboard: See and edit annotations; add Klips to tabs; reorder tabs
Client Manager
Klipfolio Partners get access to the client management tool. Like the User Admin role, the Client Manager is a dedicated role for administrating clients, especially for scenarios where you're working with 50+ clients. Beyond this custom role, Partners can fully utilize the roles feature to regulate client access to the dashboard. Setting all client users to View-Only isn't such a bad idea, and avoids unnecessary inconveniences down the road.
Key Permissions
- Clients: Sign in as an admin; add, share, edit and delete clients
- Dashboard: See and edit annotations; add Klips to tabs; reorder tabs
